For this shipment, Wagenborg mobilized her general cargo vessel ‘Trinityborg’ with four custom-built static cable tanks in the vessel’s box-shaped holds. Wagenborg was fully responsible for the loading and discharge operations of the array cables. A dedicated project manager and cargo superintendent on site to ensure safe and smooth cable handling operations.
It is common for subsea cables to be shipped using special mostly expensive and less-available cable-laying vessels. However, Wagenborg's fleet of geared general cargo ships offers an interesting alternative with its box-shaped holds and deck cranes. Due to the all-round nature of these vessels, the cargo superintendents of Wagenborg engineered a smart solution for shipping subsea cables by building static cable tanks. These cable tanks can be customized for Wagenborg’s A series, T series and W series. In addition, mooring plans, stowage plans, sea fastening calculations, motion analysis, transportation plans and demobilization plans can be drawn up on a short notice. This allows the geared fleet to be mobilised quickly and economically friendly for the transport of subsea cables.
Wagenborg has an unparalleled track record in subsea cable logistics. Over the past 9 years, we have successfully shipped more than 4.000 km of subsea and fiber optic cables with our fleet of general cargo vessels, own cable handling equipment and custom-built static cable tanks. As a total solutions provider, Wagenborg offers full service logistic solutions for export, interconnector and inter-array cables. The combination of our own fleet of vessels, cable tanks and handling equipment with in-house project management and cargo superintendents expertise minimizes risk for our clients’ projects, from the early stages until installation.
