Wagenborg completes fleet-wide installation of ballast water treatment systems, achieving full IMO compliance

Wagenborg announces the completion of its fleet-wide ballast water treatment system (BWTS) installation program, with all 166 general cargo vessels now fully equipped and operational.

Between 2019 and 2024, Wagenborg systematically installed BWTS across its owned and managed vessels. The final installation on mv IJborg marks 100% fleet compliance with the IMO Ballast Water Treatment Convention, ahead of the 2024 mandatory deadline.

"As early adopters of this critical environmental technology, Wagenborg has demonstrated its commitment to ocean health and sustainability", said Niels Wage, Managing Director at Wagenborg Shipping. "This achievement places us at the forefront of the industry in protecting marine ecosystems."

New upcoming subjetcs

In addition to the BWTS installations, Wagenborg continues to pioneer various initiatives to further its environmental stewardship, including the implementation of biocide-free fouling systems, the adoption of whale protection protocols through speed reduction in sensitive areas, and ongoing research into fleet-wide underwater noise reduction technologies.
